In 1938, the newly-installed Communist Government of Mongolia, under orders from Moscow, launches a nation-wide purge. Before it's over, nearly a tenth of the country's population of lamas and northern herders are murdered in the purge. In 2003 a mass grave is unearthed not far from Ulan-Bator, and an old lama is asked to recognize the kind of people who had been murdered from their garments. |
